Suffolk's Butterflies - Distribution maps for 2014 - 2018

Suffolk Butterfly Recording- 2014-2018 Distribution
Distribution maps have been prepared for 36 species that have occurred in Suffolk during the five year recording period 2014-2018.
(Rarities have not been included, Chalkhill Blue has been excluded due to site sensitivities and more data is required for the introduced Brown Hairstreak in Central Ipswich).
The maps are based on records received and represent the Suffolk tetrads where butterflies have been recorded.  (NB. Suffolk has 1089 Tetrads in total).

Scarce/Yellow-legged Tortoiseshell  Occasional sighting but becoming increasingly common in the Netherlands.

Queen of Spain Fritillary  Scarce migrant.  Bred near Minsmere some years ago 
High Brown Fritillary Not known why one was seen near Felixstowe. 
Dark Green Fritillary  Present in Norfolk. 
Silver-washed Fritillary  Recent scarce resident but now present in several woods.
Speckled Wood Increasingly common resident
Wall Brown Declining resident
Marbled White Introduced colony in Ipswich.  Some sightings in West of Suffolk. 
Grayling Resident, confined to the Sandlings and Brecks, Suffolk BAP species
Gatekeeper Common resident
