2021 PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION FOR SUFFOLK BRANCH MEMBERS

Results

The Suffolk Branch Photographic Competition, held in Feb/Mar this year was a success with 80 photographs submitted by our members. Unfortunately, Covid restrictions dictated the cancellation of the 2020 AGM, so our members didn't get to view the entries as usual in person. We trust that this online alternative was a more than suitable alternative.

Photographic Competition Rules

Timetable
1. Entries can be submitted from 15 Jan 2021 to 28 Feb 2021
2. Votes can be made from 1 Mar 2021 to 21 Mar2021.
3. Winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be announced on our Website and on our Twitter account at the end of March - with photos
4. Winning entries will be included in Summer Argus

Rules:
5. Open only to members of Suffolk Branch of Butterfly Conservation (SBBC)
6. There is a maximum of three entries per person
7. There is only one category. Any UK Butterfly or Moths at any stage of the life-cycle.
8. Photographs must have been taken during 2020 in East Anglia, ie Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk.

How to Enter:
9. Submit your entries (up to three) by attaching to an email and send to photocomp@suffolkbutterflies.org.uk by 28 February 2021. For each please provide your name, species name, location and date taken. You can also provide technical details but this is not necessary.
10. We will be unable to send an email to confirm entries have been received.
11. A few days after you send the entry check the competition page to ensure that your photo(s) are there and the details are correct. Let us know if anything needs to be corrected.

How to Vote:
12. Votes can be made only by members of Suffolk Branch of Butterfly Conservation
13. You may vote for up to three of the entries by emailing with the Entry Number and Species Name. email to photovote@suffolkbutterflies.org.uk
14. Voting opens 1st March 2021 and closes 21st March 2021. Any votes received before 1st March or after 21st March will be void.

Other Notes for Entrants:
15. All Entries will be displayed on the BC Suffolk Branch website, www.suffolkbutterflies.org.uk .
16. Each entry will show the species name (but not the entrant name) and will be given an entry number. Winning entrant names will be given when announced.
17. As entries are received they may also be posted on Twitter, @BC_Suffolk, with the same information.
18. All images on the website will be resized to a maximum of 900 pixels wide (landscape) or 900 pixels high (portrait). If you submit larger files, they will be resized before being put on the website or posted on Twitter.
19. The copyright of each photograph remains with the photographer. We will only publish the photograph on the competition website page, in the Argus and on Twitter.

Digital Image Enhancement
20. In the spirit of the competition, your entries should be an accurate representation of what you saw when you took the photograph. No composite images are allowed. You may edit by adjusting exposure, contrast, and colour balance; noise reduction, sharpening and cropping are also permitted. Cloning of images is not acceptable other than to remove dust spots or other very minor blemishes.

The Branch is always grateful for butterfly records and a recording form can be downloaded from the recording page of this website.
We would be particularly grateful for records away from the coast and information on the following species:
Dingy Skipper, Green Hairstreak, Purple Hairstreak, White Letter Hairstreak, Silver-studded Blue, Wall Brown, White Admiral, Silver-washed Fritillary, Grayling and Small Heath.
